“This is the start of a new era,” said New Jersey Assemblywoman-elect Katie Brennan last week.  The 2009 XU graduate was part of the blue wave that swept the country.

Democrats scored victories in the four major races of the night — the New York City mayoral race, the governor's races in New Jersey and Virginia and Prop 50, California's redistricting ballot.  Brennan scored a landslide victory in her race to represent New Jersey’s 32nd Legislative District.

“This is our chance to shake things up and deliver real change, and I’m ready to be an independent voice in the Legislature to make that happen. This is the start of a new era in Trenton. Let's get to work."

That drive to shake things up took root during her college years, Brennan says.

“I had no grand plan when I enrolled at Xavier, but I liked the Jesuit and liberal arts education, and even more so the commitment to social justice.”

That commitment will now continue as a New Jersey Assemblywoman when she is sworn in January 13, 2026.
